Ecotourism

In 1983, Hector Ceballos Lascuráin, architect and author, defined ecotourism as a form of responsible tourism.The term ecotourism was first used about thirty years ago and although its meaning has been the subject of much debate since it is generally accepted as the responsible travel to natural areas that conserves the environment, sustains the well-being of the local people and involves interpretation and education.

So, if ecotourism is properly applied, it should represent a viable option for the conservation of the natural and cultural heritage of people while promoting sustainable economic development. It should include traveling without disturbing nature in order to enjoy, appreciate or study the natural attractions (landscapes, flora and fauna) and also cultural events part of local cultures.

Snorkeling with whale sharks was on our bucket list and we were not disappointed! Mark and Cesar were great guides. They really seemed to care about the sharks and were very knowledgeable about them. The boat crew did a great job and were able to get us some great pictures. We had great service and would not hesitate to do this tour again next time we are in the area.

I don't think I will ever forget the experience and it was a truly incredible one - the whale sharks were incredible and our small group was able to get plenty of time swimming by them! I would come back again through Eco Tours without a doubt.
